Chris Cordner – training with MotionX-GPS

Chris Cordner – Head of Features for the Hartlepool Mail in Hartlepool, England.  Chris has been training for a half-marathon and using MotionX-GPS to track his progress.  Here is a track of one of his runs and his story about the experience!

“TAKE a look at this map.
Feast your eyes on this vast expanse. Because that is what I ran around – four times I may add – in my preparations for the half marathon I plan to tackle later on this year.

My Springs personal trainer Chris I’Anson led me on a tough, challenging and yet hugely enjoyable trek around Hartlepool Marina.
He recorded it all on his brand new mobile phone which was following our every move on a global satellite system.

It’s quite daunting to think a sophisticated piece of equipment in space is tracking my progress from outside of the Earth’s atmosphere.
I felt sorry for it. It must have had to slow its pace down to keep up – or down – with me.

We ran 5.3 miles in 53 minutes. It was the fastest and the furthest I had gone. We completed a winding course round the Marina four times and it was on a freezing cold January night.

It’s amazing what you will do when you have a target to aim at. I have a 13-mile challenge to complete later this year and it is driving me forward when I am racked with pain on a January evening in Hartlepool.

These are the details of my run.
Start time: January 7 – 4:55 pm.
Distance: 5.35 miles.
Elapsed Time: 53:23.8.
Average speed: 6.0 mph.
Average pace: 9 minutes 59 seconds per mile.
I shall be charting my progress over the coming weeks. Watch this space.”
