The Appalachian Teacher

appalachian-trail-map2Mr. Chad DeVoe, Kevin and his dog Lucy have a huge challenge in front of them this summer – their goal is to hike the entire Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. Mr DeVoe is a 7th Grade Life Sciences teacher from Groton, NY and will be using his 3G iPhone with MotionX-GPS to communicate to his students and friends throughout his journey.  They plan to start their trek in 4 days on April 4, 2009. 

The hike is 2,175 miles and they expect it will take them five months to complete.  His gear list includes everything from duct tape to a water purifyer to an iPhone 3G – everything one would need to survive five months in the wilderness!  (He has a solar charger for the iPhone)

He will be blogging along the way and posting his daily tracks using MotionX-GPS.
