Birdwatching with MotionX-GPS

June 13, 2009

Shirley Devan is the President of the Williamsburg Bird Club in Virginia. She recently started using MotionX-GPS to record her tracks and document the location of bird nesting areas along her route. The site she shared with us is an Army Corps of Engineers site (which is currently closed to the public) where she has been assisting Project Manager, ornithologist Ruth Beck, who is tracking nesting birds at the site. Ruth has been studying birds here for 20 years, and writes and submits a report each Fall to the Army Corps of Engineers on the nesting bird colonies.

“I was really just experimenting and seeing what happened. I had camera, binocs, and backpack strapped on while paying attention to the iPhone and MotionX. Overall results turned out very well for a first effort, and Ruth is thrilled with the results. MotionX-GPS software is very impressive.”

Here is a track from Shirley’s latest outing. She used MotionX-GPS to mark 5 waypoints along the way.
